I am Dr. Julia Nonyerem Ogwunga, a psychiatrist. I am an Alumnus of both the University of Nigeria, Enugu campus where I obtained my MBBS (Nig.) and the West African College of Physicians from which I am a Fellow FWACP (Psych.).
I also hold certificates from the University of Washington in Leadership and Management in Health, as well as from the World Bank Group, in Basic Health Economics.
I have firm belief in the words of the former WHO Director General Dr. Brooks Chisholm and the former United Nations Secretary General, Ban Ki-moon who both said that “There is no health without mental health.”
I am presently the Director at the Department of Health Services, Alvan Ikoku Federal College of Education, Owerri, Imo State, Nigeria. This is where I carry out my primary duty.
But I also serve as a Consultant Psychiatrist to hospitals like Brain Plus Specialist Hospital, during my spare time.
To widen the reach of mental health awareness, I speak on different radio stations and television shows when invited.
I also air my views on mental health topics on different print media and speak at different conferences organized for mental health issues when invited.
A member Nigerian Medical Association Imo State branch, I also give lectures when invited especially during the Continual Medical Education (CME).
My interest in publishing quality articles on my blog, Docbrainmatters.com, is borne out of the zeal I have to further educate people on brain, mental and behavioural issues, so as to ensure that people enjoy good quality of life…
